Indoor cycling offers an effective solution for keeping fit without having to deal with weather or road conditions, offering a low-impact workout that works several muscles across legs, hips, and core areas.
Indoor bikes, similar to treadmills and classic ellipticals, may come equipped with various pre-set workout modes that may or may not meet your fitness goals.
1. Bowflex Velocore
The Bowflex Velocore indoor bike is an innovative fitness solution with its innovative leaning mode that engages core muscles. Additionally, there are entertainment features to help combat boredom and keep workouts interesting.
VeloCore bikes feature an HD touchscreen for immersive training and entertainment options, including support for popular cycling apps like Zwift as well as custom coaching with metric tracking (subscription required).
Velocore bikes stand out from other models with its leaning mode – which allows users to unlock and lean left and right like when riding outdoors. Support for up to 325 pounds both stationary and leaning modes as well as one year warranty coverage options are included with each unit purchased.
2. Sunny Health & Fitness
Sunny Health & Fitness offers budget-conscious exercise equipment that consistently receives positive feedback from users. Their upright bikes, recumbent bikes and indoor cycling bikes can accommodate virtually every size user or exercise goal.
Numerous models from their bikes feature heavy flywheels and steel frames to give a sturdy feel, as well as relatively quiet operation.
Some Sunny bikes feature basic data screens that display time, speed, distance and calories burned while others boast more advanced consoles with preset workout programs and other features.
Other features to look out for on these exercise bikes include adjustable seats and rounded handlebars for comfort, and some models also include a dumbbell holder to incorporate weight training into your indoor cycling workouts. Some exercise bikes even boast weight capacities up to 275 pounds!
3. Yosuda
The Yosuda has a 35-pound flywheel, creating the feel of riding an indoor spin bike at the gym while making for a quieter experience than air bikes using friction resistance. Furthermore, its magnetic resistance system supports up to 350 pounds.
Our primary tester, 6 feet tall with 32-inch inseam, found their ideal position easily thanks to the wide range of adjustments for both seat post and handlebar height. Furthermore, there was ample padding and pressure relief cutout in place on this chair for added comfort and pressure relief.
Users have given high praise to the Yosuda for its sturdy construction and adjustable features that accommodate different heights and preferences. It comes complete with clear instructions and all of the hardware necessary for assembly, which typically takes around an hour to complete.
4. Schwinn 270
Schwinn 270 may not boast the latest technologies like some other options on this list, but its features still make it worthy of consideration. With 29 built-in workout programs (including fitness tests and heart rate control) and four user profiles; Bluetooth connectivity to use with Explore the World app as well as MyFitnessPal; wireless grip heart rate monitors that work wirelessly with telemetry (chest strap not included); backlit display; it still makes for an attractive recumbent bike option.
This model’s only major drawbacks are its weak packaging and manual pulse monitor rather than wireless option, and some users reported receiving defective parts which have since been promptly replaced by Schwinn.
5. Wattbike
Wattbike was first developed in the UK in 2008 and is used by elite cycling teams and fitness clubs worldwide. Their new Wattbike Nucleus model provides accuracy, reliability, performance touch screen access to unlock health and performance. These bikes offer air resistance or magnetic resistance – ideal for high intensity interval training sessions, strength sessions or light recovery rides.
Wattbike stands out as an innovative fitness platform due to its use of power measurements to customise workouts to each user, using power measurements as the basis of personalized workout plans that improve fitness. Furthermore, there are interactive cycling workouts such as HIIT, Tour Rides and Hills available that add variety and can add variety into running training routines. Furthermore, connecting two Wattbikes simultaneously enables race against other users real time!
